‘Intelligent One Who Reasons With Strength and Dignity’, that’s the meaning of my name. I am an African American Princess stuck in the reality of an original person. Yes, that’s me. Akilah. The girl that you hear about and always see; the girl that sticks out in the hallways with her brightly colored shoelaces and matching outfits; the girl that everyone knows because all the actives she is in; the girl who loves to take notes and writes in different colors; the girl that loves her little cousin to pieces calls him her little brother. Yes, that’s me. I’m obsessed with my jewelry and my ‘Book of Thoughts’. I am a sarcastic person with the belief that everything is created to be made fun of. I’m the girl who always has a smile on her face, laughing at something that was once serious. Conceited at times and full of bravado. That’s me. Mind constantly moving, jumping from one idea to another. Never finishing my last thought but already onto the next one. I’m such a giant perceiver. I’m also a philosopher with no advice, just answers. Always trying to save the world, just like Superman. Trying to keep a women from falling out the forty-fifth story window of the Empire State Building; trying to single handedly solve the worlds problems; trying to make everyone happy and constantly smiling. I’m like Superman without the secret identity and without the tights. I have an answer for everything. There is no problem that I can’t handle and I won’t let things get over whelming. My parents said that I couldn’t get a dog because I’m never home. I’m always on the move. Home for five minutes, then out the door to somewhere else. Between basketball, school, soccer, parties, it’s all just one big ball of chaos. Keeping up with schedules, knowing where to go and when. It’s quite an interesting life I live. Always inviting people over, constantly entertaining, and parties galore. No wonder I have trouble sleeping at night. But when it’s all said and done, and it’s time to relax, time to wind down, I’ll write something. Writing is a way to express myself. My mind moves so fast that it’s hard to catch every thought, every word. I find that writing things down, slows down my thought process. It makes it easier to think. So naturally I write about everything. It’s a way to clear my head. Things that I couldn’t explain to you in person, I would write down and know exactly what I wanted to say. I love my ‘Book of Thoughts’. It’s a great listener. It doesn’t interrupt me or worry about its cell phone or ask unnecessary questions or give unwanted feedback. It’s pretty much my best friend.
