In this world, as of June 02, 1988, there was a little bundle of joy by the name of Ashley born at Parkland Hospital at 8:35am to her parents, Steven and Kimberly. As she was in the hospital, when she was just a few hours old, they found out she was born with a syndrome called Nager Syndrome, which is a very very rare condition. It may or may not be genetically derived. Major symptoms may include underdevelopment of the cheek and jaw area of the face. Down-sloping of the opening of the eyes, a smaller than normal jaw, lack or absence of the lower eyelashes, lack of development of the internal and external ear with related hearing problems and cleft palate may also occur. There may be underdevelopment or absence of the thumb, shortened forearms and poor movement in the elbow. Breathing and feeding problems may be present in infants with this syndrome. Only ninety people in the US have it. It can be genetic but no researches have confirmed that, as well as them having babies that survive. She had a G-Tube put into her stomach, but the doctors messed up so they had to fix her stomach and redo it again. She also had a tracheotomy. For the first three years of her life, she had a colostomy because of her intestines. It was not developed right, so she had the bag to poop in, along with her intestine sticking out, which is why she had the colostomy done. She also had surgeries on her fingers to cut off the middle fingers and turn them into thumbs since she didn’t have any thumbs when she was born. There were more hospital stays as she was in her infant years, as well as trying to get a hearing-aid, which she got at three years old. She was in and out of the hospital for months at a time because of complications and illnesses that were coming and going. At the age of six, she and her sister Amy moved in with their grandparents in Mesquite from a custody case.

Growing up was hard for this little girl as she was going to school, getting made fun of, trying to understand herself and why God made her this way. The more people made fun and stared, the more she wondered and it made her very upset to where she would cry herself to sleep every night. She started having corrective surgery for her face (jaw especially) when she was six, all the way until she was sixteen or seventeen years old. While growing up, she had to learn things completely different because of how things were. She had to learn how to read lips and pick things up with her toes. She still does this to this day. She has not had anymore surgeries since her last one and she's living a normal life, with her head held up high, and not caring what others say or do.

She has now grown up into a beautiful young lady, of age twenty two, who stands 4'10" and is petite. She still lives with her grandparents in Mesquite, but is hoping to move into her own place VERY soon. She's single. She recently finished going to El Centro College and is now a Medical Transcriptionist.
