A Pit Bull’s Christmas Story
A Christmas Story:
T'was the night before Christmas and all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse
The stockings where hung by the chimney with care
In the hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there
But at the North Pole sudden changes arose
All down to Rudolph and his ruby red nose
Clipboard in hand, a breed expert arrived
He motioned to Santa saying," please step aside".
A smooth haired coat and a muscular build
A broad deep chest our Rudolph did yield
The breed expert's pen, created pages of ticks
Then he suddenly called out "good lord, we've been tricked!"
"This creatures no donkey and clearly no horse!
I know these things! I've attended the course!"
Look at my clipboard the boxes are full!
It's very obvious to me: Rudolph is a pit bull!
Out with the measuring sticks, he explained to Santa the law
And he measured poor Rudolph from shoulder to floor.
As the spectacle continued Santa said with a sigh
He's a reindeer you fool! Why must he die?
"The law is the law" the expert said standing tall,
Then picked up his mobile and made a quick call
The sound of sirens filled the peaceful night air
and Rudolph removed …to who knew where?
Days turned too weeks and confused and alone
Rudolph pined, for the place he called home
As the first snow started falling Rudolph gave up the fight
And he took his last breath on a cold winters night
You may think this is funny, if a little untrue.
But how would you like it, if it happened to you?
If your dog was taken because of its look?
Because it ticked enough boxes in some silly book?
Regardless of parentage it doesn't matter what breed
If it ticks enough boxes then it's a done deed
So humour me here and pretend this is true
Think how you would feel if it happened to you.
Cuddle your hounds while you have them close by
For some spend this Christmas, waiting to die.
Now back to the story, it doesn't end there
One more short verse I need to share
Santa fetched Rudolph's body and cried for his friend
And swore to himself, this would not be the end
And I heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight
"The law is wrong, please help us to fight!"
The Rainbow Bridge Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who was left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your lifebut never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...
The Night Before Christmas Twas the night before Christmas and the Shelter is Dark, The whole place is silent, not even a bark. The dogs are all locked in their pens for the night, The staff has gone home and turned out the light. As I lay my head on the cold concrete floor, I fondly recall the home I had before. The family I loved who loved me right back, We'd share everything from secret to snack. Things couldn't be better this time last year, But that has all changed and now I am here. I won't see the tree, the lights or the snow, I'm scared and alone, my spirits are low. The others like me weren't put up for adoption, A new family and home for us, aren't an option. We've been locked up in cells, like we were all crooks, We don't deserve a new home, because of our looks. Not Diesel, or Bingo, or the young one named Percy, Deserved to be loved, or shown any mercy. While families celebrate holiday cheer, I know in my heart that my end is near. The vet will arrive, the lights will go on. By the time you awake, we will all be gone. A stranger will come to take me away, I'll never wake to see another day.
Misunderstood I would like to tell you my story, I'm so misunderstood... Because there is no justice For a dog from the 'hood. I was raised as I am, Without care, without love. I long to be wanted, To be free like a dove. I didn't know it was wrong.... I would not harm a fly. 'Twas my master that made me Go after that guy. I was taught by my master That killing was good. I want to change what I did, And if I could, then I would. But now I'm in this cage With a muzzle on my snout. I'll go into that room And never come out. Now I sit here and wonder, As I run short on time... Why is it that I must pay For my cruel owner's crime? This is the story Of a dog from the 'hood. He was given no justice. He's so misunderstood.
The Canine Bill of Rights I have the right to give and receive unconditional love. I have the right to a life that is beyond mere survival. I have the right to be trained so I do not become the prisoner of my own misbehavior. I have the right to adequate food and medical care. I have the right to socialize with people and dogs outside of my family. I have the right to have my needs and wants respected. I have the right to special time with my people. I have the right to only be bred responsibly - if not at all. I have the right to some time and space all my own. I have the right to be foolish and silly, and to make my person laugh. I have the right to earn my person's trust and to be trusted in return. I have the right to be forgiven. I have the right to die with dignity.
