Crucified gamer
Jesus was crucified for the sins of humanity. Applying this punishment to cheats adds to the gaming experience Turn the clock forward 2,006 years and the same punishment is being meted out, albeit electronically, to computer game cheats.
The webmasters of online game Roma Victor nailed a player to a cross in cyberspace for illegally killing new players before they got to grips with the game. The player, known by the online name of Cynewulf, spent seven days on full public display in a square in the Roman town of Corstopitum modern-day Corbridge in Northumberland where fellow gamers were able to verbally insult and throw rotten fruit at him. It seems the ancient punishment worked better than an Asbo.
Cynewulf was taken off the cross last week and is now behaving himself, said the game's creator RedBedlam. Roma Victor is set in Britain in 180AD. Players pay 20 to open an account and then take on roles as slaves, citizens and soldiers under the Roman empire, learning skills and buying things with virtual money. Online role-play games usually punish cheats by banning them.
But RedBedlam boss Kerry Fraser- Robinson said: 'Since our online world is historically authentic, we feel applying this punishment to cheats and other virtual wrongdoers adds to the gaming experience.'
Do you think we should ask BabyJesus to let us do this here?
