There has been no cause given for the fire yet but I wonder, do you think the cause was something done by the 4 welders who happened to be trapped on the roof when the fire started, or something else like a drunk guest with a cigarette or an act of the man upstairs? (no pun intended)
Here's an article about it in case you care-
LAS VEGAS -- During an afternoon news conference, Clark County Fire Chief Steve Smith said that no one was injured during a three-alarm blaze at the Monte Carlo.
A spectacular fire was raging atop the landmark Monte Carlo Resort and Casino on Strip, consuming large portions of the complex's top floors and sending plumes of thick black smoke into the air.
Fire crews on top of the 3,000-room hotel at 3770 Las Vegas Blvd. S. are trying to contain the blaze, which broke out shortly after 11 a.m.
Four welders who were working on the roof were trapped there, but they were recently rescued.
The blaze began at the top of the hotel and has spread down into four different parts, including the roof, a top corner of the building and a couple of floors down from the roof. There are 32 floors and about 3,000 people staying at the hotel, which is owned by MGM Mirage.
Guests were spotted looking out of hotel windows, and guests were gambling up until a recent evacuation.
Floors 15 and above have been evacuated. The rest of the floors are nearly evacuated, according to hotel workers.
Guests who are attempting to check in are being turned away.
Debris is falling from the blaze, and it is catching other parts of the hotel on fire.
Fire crews are reporting the fire is nearly contained in the south wing and fully contained in the west wing.
Las Vegas Boulevard is closed from Harmon to Tropicana avenues.
There were no major injuries.
There is no word on the cause of the blaze.
A news conference about the fire will reportedly be held later Friday. |
