I read in a publication today that they are testing some of Alaskas untamed wilderness for possible oil refineries. I personally think that this should not be done. For one that is some of the only remaining land left untouched in the United States. Number two it would be bad for the decreasing animal population already present in Alaska, such as the Caribou. And number three it would effect the locals hunting and foraging and there needs to survive.
The positives are a better economy in Alaska. Number two our problem with gas reserves would reduce and we would have a lower gas prices thus making it easier for the economy for the simple reason of there being lower gas prices and such. And number three the proposals to drill stated that local villagers and townspeople would benefit with jobs and huge annual payments over three thousand dollars a year for being a resident.
Now I think both side are right in a way but I don't really agree with it because of the wildlife problems and the companies being intrusive to the land. But thes are supposed to be huge refineries. They say big enough to never have to worry about shortages.
What do you think? Make Em' Drill so you can afford to go to work. Or save the animals and untamed wilderness? |
