When are oldest was ready to start school we put her in Englewood Christian academy and she did very well, maintaining the A honer role and not being in trouble. The school did have down sides to it like science and social aspects. She found it hard to relate to a lot of the girls as their home life reflected the schools and we are a bit (ok a lot) more laxed here at the ponderosa. We pull her out this last year and let her try Public Schools... Now we live in Independence but are in the KC School district. Despite her being in the 6th grade and testing on the 9th grade level they refused to test her for moving up. On top of all that we ran in to more and more isues.
We checked back with Englewood and the principle said that since she has been in public school we aren't sure she would fit in. This was really a "I am glad you and you are out of this school, you had your own minds and opinions". Yes we do and 1 of their history books says that the Japanese people are bad because they dont believe in the Christian "True" God, so we bombed them. It's nice to have a god, you can get away with anything including killing 300,000+ people in a blink of an eye. I am sure the crew of the Enola Gay feel the same way.
Last summer the subject came up about annexing the schools and neighbourhoods in Independence from KC. Oh, KC went nuts! This was something to do with the desegregation lawsuit. It looks like its going to eventually happen but not until maybe my youngest is ready for high-school!
Today we talked with the Independence Schools about paying tuition. We found out we are screwed there. We don't own property in Independence or we could.
So now we are researching home schooling. I am not sure about that either.
Should Kansas City re-open the seven schools they closed within their city and let Independence alone?
