Another mum made me think of this question. It seems as though a lot of people never move too far from where they grew up or where their families are. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just couldn't imagine not having had the experience of striking out on my own, finding my own path, and exploring new places.
I moved out of my parent's house in Chicago 1,000 miles away to Colorado when I was 19. Went through some tough times, but learned a hell of a lot about myself, met some amazing people and had the time of my life. I still live here now. It turns out that it was a good thing I learned how to live far away from my family because both my parents passed away within six years after my initial move here.
Goes to show that you have to live your life nad try new things and that the family you want to live close to for security reasons is not always going to be there. Life is too short not to try new things and go as many places as you can in my opinion.
I guess my question is this: If you live far away from most of your family, are you glad you made that choice? (I am)
If you live close to your family and always have does some part of you wish you had tried other things?
For voting: The adventure and independance of living far away and seeing other places, or the comfort and security of staying where you grew up or close to family? |
