Jack Kevorkian assisted over 100 terminally ill patients in ending their lives by supplying them with the medicines and hardware to end their lives quickly and painlessly. In all of his cases, excepting his last one, the patients actually performed the suicide after he set them up.
For his last case, he actually performed the killing, as the patient had advanced Lou Gehrig's disease, and could not reliably perform the suicide.
He videotaped this euthenasia, and had it shown on national television to force force the courts to legalize Assisted Suicide for terminally ill patients. He was prosecuted for murder, and sent to prison.
Should society allow assisted suicide, or euthenasia for terminally ill patients? Was Jack Kevorkian right? |
