Who really reads this stuff? At least I don't have a bunch of Flash loading up as you're looking me over...

"The unexamined life is not worth living." - Socrates

I'm like no one you've ever met and like everyone you've ever met. I believe in the basic good of people and that to be empathetic is the highest good. Chances are I don't see things exactly the way you do. But I will make the effort to understand how you see them, perhaps ultimately better than you do yourself. I don't accept things at face value; instead I look for the roots of them, the values that define them. I never stop asking, "why"? Sometimes this rubs people the wrong way; so be it. On the other hand if you feel like asking the same of me, all the better.

"What I do does not define me, what I am defines what I do" - more slack

I do chip and board design. My specialty lately is digital video and high-speed interfaces. Apparently I'm good at it as I've been in the field for 30+ years now. Someday I'll grow up and get a real job but for now it keeps me in beer and English motorcycle parts.

Tired of mainstream media news? Like yours a bit more unfiltered, with a side-order of snark? Then check out FARK.com where I'm 'what the cat dragged in'. (If you like cats - especially the LOL variety - there's a weekly Caturday thread. Get your lol-kitteh fix there.)

**** What is this business of 'slack', anyway? ****

If you're a Subgenius you need no explanation (you have no prob with "Bob"). For the rest of you it simply means to have more time to let your mind wander, to not get worked up over stuff, to be more forgiving and less judgmental.

Nerd angle: in my job one of the things I do is called 'timing closure', that to make my stuff run fast (more MHz) by careful design. The extra timing margin is called, you guessed it, 'slack' (some Subgenii at Synopsys wrote the tool I suppose.) The trick is to do it in ways that save both power and area... y'know, save the planet and all that.

Either way, more slack is better than less.

(Yes, I am a that much of a dork.)
