How am I supposed to sum myself up in a few words? I'm someone who values words and the meanings behind them. I suppose thats one of the reasons I write. Words are tools and they can destroy or build. They are also symbols that can evoke great emotion when someone recognizes something inside themselves. Nothing makes me feel better than to have someone read one of my poems or essays and come back to me and say they were touched by what I wrote. Truth takes many forms, but often the most powerful is the written word.
I'm an oddball who likes not always fitting in with the ideal others have of who/how I should be. I consider myself a bit flaky and can be completely off the wall at times. I was told by a good friend of mine once that when he first met me he thought I was a wallflower. When I asked him what happened to change his mind he very quickly replied, "You opened your mouth!" I often sit back and get a feel for new people and new situations before I draw attention to myself. It helps to be funny if you have some idea of the humour needed to get a laugh.
I can also be very serious, but have been known to crack jokes even then. A laugh makes everything better as long as it isn't used to shift the focus from what needs to be dealt with.
I'm a firm believer in things happening for a reason. There is good in everything, even the most horrible and painful of events. It all depends on how you look at things and how you use what you learn from them.
I'm a very proud mother of five wonderful children. The oldest is 20 already and the youngest is 10. I don't know how that happened so fast, but it did.
I'm in love with a wonderful man named John. He spoils me rotten and I return the favor. We'd be completely lost without each other. We live in Scotland and I enoy the sense of history there. Walking the streets in Edinburgh leaves me totally in awe knowing the people whose feet have touched those stones before mine. It is a wonderful place to live, but Political Correctness has gone entirely too far there. Its almost as if the Brits are trying to make up for all those heads that rolled for no reason. A parent can't spank their child and a teacher can't physically touch a child without telling them they're going to first. I even saw something in one of the papers the other day about how they want to make it illegal for women in council flats to wear stiletto heels. Thats insane if you ask me!
If any of you have actually made it this far you're either crazy or like what you see. If you're interested I have an AOL homepage (http://hometown.aol.com/gaeliggoddess/). It hasn't been updated in awhile due to AOL's needing to make a functional page editor available. Check it out if you want. You'll find links there to some of my other webpages as well as links to some of my favorite sites.

Interests
Writing is my passion. Poetry, essays, short stories and even the odd book chapter here and there just to keep things interesting. Life is amazing to me because of its simple complexity. Even at its most agonizingly painful it contains beauty beyond what we can imagine. If I could paint a picture with a brush I would, but I have only words.
I spend most of my free time thinking of things to do. I watch more telly than I should like to admit. I'm a Trekkie and prefer TOS, NG and Enterprise. I like Gilmore Girls (because it reminds me of the relationship I have with my own daughter), Stargate SG-1, Two and a Half Men, Will and Grace, ER, Grace Under Fire, Roseanne and various other programs of the reality type. I so hate admitting that!!
I've done years of genealogy research and have uncovered some deep dark family secrets. My research spark a deep love of history though it was one of my weakest subjects in school because I had no frame of reference. Archeology amazes me and I would love to learn more.
Music
Lynyrd Skynyrd, Runrig, Loreena McKennit, .38 Special, The Doors, The Duhks, Nickel Creek, Sonny Landereth, Emmylou Harris, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash, Father Son and Friends, Blind Melon, Guns 'n' Roses, Keith Urban, Billy Joel, KT Tunstall, Nickelback, Meatloaf, Travelling Wilbury's, Green Day, Enya, Def Leppard, Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Nizlopi,
The list goes on and on, but I've not had enough coffee yet to think straight. My musical tastes are all over the place, as you can see. Old Country, 70's & 80's rock, blues, folk, pop... I'm not a fan of classical. It gives me a headache, as does rap and hip-hop.Other than that, I'll listen to just about anything.
Movies
I'm an avid reader (Of Mice and Men, The Book of Ruth, anything by Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Peter Straub, and Morgan Llwellyn sa well as historical texts)and movie watcher (most any blood and guts horror will pass the time, but I prefer something with meaning that makes me think. Favorites include Of Mice and Men, Fried Green Tomatoes, Benny and Joon, Driving Miss Daisey, Full Monty, Man About Dog (a fantasticly funny Irish film) LOTR, Rob Roy (w/Liam Neeson) Braveheart(tho it wasn't exactly correct it was well made and did follow the book), Stargate and anything by Mel Brookes... The list could go on forever!
Video Games
Haven't been into video games since I was a teen, and even then I wasn't really big on them. When Nintendo came along Tetris was the game for me! Could spend hours lost in that world
