I have a friend who has some personal issues. She has very low self esteem and only talks down about herself...actually...that is ALL she talks about. She never calls to ask me about how my day is going; it's always about her. She says she doesn't want any attention or sympathy, so I stopped giving it...now I look like a jerk.(If she doesn't want any attention, then why does she post about her issues all over her page and get pissed when no one comments on it?) I've told her I tried to help her every way I could, but there is nothing else I can do...except listen...but I am also getting tired of that. I have some sympathy for her, but it's getting really old. She says no one loves her and cares about her...yet she calls me to tell me this. Now she is saying I don't care about her problems cause I'm not feeling sorry for her. Come on...really? If I didn't care why would I keep talking to her? She's an online friend, so it's not like I can be there in person.
When a person constantly complains about his or her issues; would you continue to show sympathy?
I understand when people are feeling down they like to feel uplifted, but when that is ALL they talk about (literally)...would'nt you get annoyed after a while?
