| I am a single mom with three kids and I live with my parents. I moved in with them because they were supposed to help me with my kids during the times that I go to school and the time I need to do my homework. The situation has become one in which my children have no supervision, both of my parents lock my kids out, they watch TV and play video games every afternoon when they get home from school, I am unable to have any time to myself to complete my homework, and my parents are not respectful of my wishes for my children. I have an opportunity to move in with a girl friend of mine where the rules I set for my kids will be carried out even when I am not there (in class for example). My parents are upset because they do not feel that I should allow people who are not related to me to "raise" my children. There will be a total of three adults in the house, the same as there is now, but each of the adults will take an avid interest in my kids and help them with their homework and make sure that they are not just left to their own devices. My question to you is: if my kids grandparents aren't willing to help out and respect my wishes as a parent is it wrong of me to move to a place where that will happen? |
