ok so this has been bugging me for years. When people say to me, "i can't place your accent, where are you from?". i don't know how to answer. Here's why:
i was born and lived in MA until i was 8. The majority of the family is still here (aunts, uncles, cousins).
Dad then moved us to Houston, TX for a year. That was where i lost my Boston accent, they said, "gurl, you talk funny. We're gonna teach you how to talk rite." So i learned how to say my R's (people from MA try: the brown bear walks through the green forest. about 100x you'll say your freakin' R's rite).
Next we moved to Broken Arrow, OK. i basically grew up there. Spent 17 years of my life in BA. Graduated High school, had my stomping grounds, all that good stuff.
10 years ago i left OK and moved back to MA. lived here for 2.5 years, moved up to Maine for 6 years, now i travel for a living (it's my job, 3 months at a time in a different place. i'm staying in MA now, forever. ty Master).
So, when people ask, "where are you from?" What should i say? i don't want to go through that whole shpeil every time. Should i go with where i was born or where i grew up? It doesn't explain my messed up Nouthern accent. i'm so confused. Please help me. |
