A little over a month ago, in West Deptford, NJ, a boy named Shaun Glassey, was stabbed and killed. He was 18, and on the surface this is terrible. The back story is that a girl texted a boy, calling him 17 to represent his age, and told him to meet her at a place. 17 shows up there, waits a bit, and gets another text saying something like "nevermind leave". 17 leaves and is confront by 6 of the girl's friends, including Glassey. Glassey and the other 5 begin to attack 17 and Glassey pulls out a knife, but 17 manages to get it from him and stabs Glassey once in the upper left chest. Glassey dies by 12:30 that night.
To all who don't know, I'm still in high school, so jumpings still aren't a shock to me. The boy represented by the name 17 is my favorite teacher's son. On a vague level, I'm pretty solid friends with him. So naturally hearing about this angered me. Then to find out that one of my best friends' sort of cousin was the girlfriend of Shaun Glassey. So, out of curiosity, I check out the kid's site, and his memorial site. On his memorial site, so many people are posting comments like "This shouldn't have happened" "I can't believe such a good kid left so young" and such to the like. I understand that these people were his friends and all that, but it still angers me that so many people call him a "good kid" when he pulled the knife, and they would be completely on his side had he been in 17's place. I believe that pulling a knife in a fight is with the intent to do serious harm. Is it wrong for this to anger me this much and in my head blame this kid for his own death?
[side note: 17 was not charged because it was self defense] |
