On the way home today, my girlfriend and I were passing a field in which the carcass of a deer has been lying for over a week. I didn't realize it was still there until my girlfriend said, "That deer is still there." Clearly, she was expressing her disappointment with the folks who work for the county on such matters for not having removed the carcass. I replied, "Must be pretty slim pickins by now." Just as we passed the carcass, a vulture raised its head from picking at the deer's abdomen. This attempt at humor on my part did not go over very well with the girlfriend.
So, help me make up my mind: next time, do I keep the black humor to myself? Or let her get used to it? |
