A few years ago, my wife screwed up and bounced a couple of checks at Walmart. Recently, this has caught up to her and she is now going through the legal system to get this handled. On Monday, she goes to court and will likely be sentenced to thirty days in jail, as we have not been able to afford to pay all of the 2500 dollar fine yet (we've paid a thousand). That normally wouldn't upset her, accept we now have a three month old girl. My wife feels that our daughter at three months will feel abandoned without her mother and she can't stop crying at the thought of not being here for her. I'm trying to make her feel better by telling her that with me working all week, and our daughter needing a parent, the judge will likely allow her to do weekends until all the time is served, but she doesn't believe me. I'm having some real trouble cheering her up. Do any of you have any suggestions for me? What should I tell her? Being a guy, I'm naturally horrible at cheering up anyone in the female race, especially my wife. Thank you. |
