As of 6/3/2008 NY State raised their cigarette tax $1.25 making a pack sell for $6.00. The reasoning behind this was they want to help save lives and prevent people from getting cancer and other illnesses. I have one question though? If they are trying to save lives how about raising the cost of alcohol?
When wat the last time you saw a smoker kill innoncent people behind the wheel of a car from smoking and driving.
