Some hospitals these days are trying to hire fewer and fewer LPNs, and some are going to all RN nursing staff. As a new RN to be, I value my LPN friends and coworkers and find that they have great skill and are invaluable to our staff. I know the ANA says a bachelor's in nursing should be the absolute entry level for nursing, and I am glad I have that education. However, I think instead of phasing out LPNs and associates degree RNs we should concentrate on making those programs better, maybe even lengthening the LPN program lengths to 15 or 18 months? Anyone have any thoughts? |
