A very dear, close personal friend of mine had become involved in a struggle for her very life. She has suffered in the past small cerebral vascular accidents (CVAs, or strokes) for which the cause is unknown and for which nothing can be done to prevent others in the future. Next year or tomorrow, a massive CVA could take her life but until then, I am shielding her from knowing the consequences of her illness.
As a tribute and testament to her life, courage and all those people who she has helped, I am writing a book about her -- and her illness -- for publication after her death. Her cousins, former co-workers and friends have many stories and photographs that would provide the canvas upon which to paint the vivid story of her life. I must do everything in my power to make certain that no one accidentally (or deliberately, however well-meaning) tells her about the consequences of her illness.
There is the dilemna: do I risk her learning of the consequences of her illness, or, do I wait until later to write the book? |
