In recent days I have been heavily conflicted by a stance I took on a local story that involved a 16 year old girl who is now 17 who was having relations with a city cop. According to Massachusetts law the legal age of consent is 16. However no one really makes a big deal about it if the two people are within a couple of years of each other. Supposedly the relationship began when she was 16 and he was 46 now they are a year older and were caught in bed together by the parents. The cop was suspended and on Monday was fired from his job by the mayor. The stance that I took was that not only should he have been fired because even as city officials have said cops are held to higher standard and clearly he violated that standard, I said why isn't he being held to the same standards as if he was just an average person. An average person would be charged with statutory rape. my argument is and still is why isn't he held to the same standard. Am I wrong
