Eleven years ago I had a car (1987 Mustang Lx) stolen from me. I pretty much knew I'd never see it again, regaurdless as to how much I loved that car. I didn't have insurance, so I was pretty much just OUT.
Then.. yesterday I get a phone call from the police department. My car has been recovered 200 miles away! It was found abandoned on the highway with no keys in it.. seems someone switched the VIN in the window but didn't mess with the other VIN plates.. when they went to run the VIN to notify the person that thier car had been towed to the impound lot they thought it looked "funny". So... they checked one of the other places on the car with the VIN numbers on it, and fixing it if it don't run.. then it's mine.
We know absolutly NOTHING about the car other than it was mine... it's now a 20yr old mustang.. and it's 200 miles away.
If I pay the expences of getting it out of impound and towing it back.. changing the ignition (or having a key made for it) having it inspected and a new VIN assigned... it's my car... If I choose not to.. I'm liable for all fees that aquire minus what they sell it for. Fees include 75.00 tow fee and 20.00 storage per day for a min. of 60 days.
