A co-worker of mine called off of work today. We were already short 2 people for the day before this at an extremely busy business. She was told earlier this week that if she had one more sick day or was even late to work one day, her job is done. When she called she asked for me, not the manager that was on duty. She was afraid to tell them the reason that she wasn't coming in. Due to personal issues that had her upset yesterday, she went on a bender last night. So as of this morning when her shift should have started, she was hungover and still upset over the issue from yesterday. I reminded her of her predicament and told her to go rest for a few hours and then work the 2nd half of her shift. Well, she never showed when she should have, putting us all in an extreme bind. In a place where we normally have 4 people covering til closing, we had 1 tech and 1 manager. I ended up working a 12 hour shift, not to mention getting my butt chewed by numerous angry customers who had to wait longer due to our lack of help.
This co-worker is a very good friend of mine, almost like sisters, and have been for years. I have never known her to do something this extremely irresponsible before and am in shock that she has. At the same time, she was warned and I was one of the ones that ended up paying for her mistake.
So to make this a mumm... When my boss asks me on monday ( like I know he will) what I know about the situation, do I tell him the truth or plead the 5th?? |
